Protests in Bogotá: march ends in riots in Plaza de Bolívar

In the center of Bogotá they have been presented again excesses and clashes between protesters and authorities, after a march that took place from the north of the city, to the Plaza de Bolívar.

According to different reports, members of the anti-riot group, Esmad, tried to dissolve and disperse the demonstration and were attacked by some people, for which they activated roar bombs and tear gas.

The spirits were exalted when the group of protesters began to populate the Carrera Séptima, at the height of Avenida Calle 19. The young people began to burn the garbage cans in the area and clashed with the anti-riot squad (Esmad).

A tank from the institution went to the place to try to control the new excesses. The protesters decided to damage several bank ATMs located in this emblematic sector of the center of the country’s capital.

After more than an hour, the protesters dispersed and the authorities controlled the situation, so mobility was reactivated in this part of the city.

These new excesses take place at a time when an act of forgiveness and reconciliation was carried out this Sunday, led by the District, and with the assistance of senior State officials.

During the event, relatives of the victims of the excesses of recent days spoke out on the subject. “I ask the president and the mayor to do everything possible to get to the truth. What happened? I ask for your collaboration in the depths of the soul”Said Flor Alcira Peralta, mother of a 17-year-old boy, a victim of firearm shots.

These excesses are derived from the death of the law student, Javier Ordóñez, after a police procedure, in the west of Bogotá, last Wednesday.
