The delegate coordinator of the Prosecutor’s Office before the Supreme Court of Justice, Gabriel Ramón Jaimes Durán, did not declare himself impeded in the process that is being carried out against the Álvaro Uribe Vélez file in the case of alleged false witnesses, as had been requested by Senator Iván Cepeda .
According to the arguments of the delegate of the Prosecutor’s Office, Senator Cepeda’s request is not appropriate because the grounds for impediment established in Law 906 of 2004 on the Accusatory Penal System are not met.

Similarly, Jaimes Durán pointed out that it has total autonomy and added that the Prosecutor’s Office is an independent entity, protected by the National Constitution. He said that the process has all the guarantees and that any type of interference is ruled out.
Gabriel Ramón Jaimes Durán’s decision is added to that taken by the Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, who also did not declare himself impeded in the case of former President Álvaro Uribe, as requested by Senator Iván Cepeda’s lawyer.
The defense of Senator Cepeda, argues that the prosecutors are united by a friendship with former President Uribe, which in their opinion makes them unable to continue the process.
“There is no link between the challenged officials and Mr. Álvaro Uribe Vélez. The arguments and situations presented by Iván Cepeda’s lawyer are no more than conjecture and personal disqualifications without any legal basis, which are supported by an unreasonable starting point: that the Attorney General of the Nation and / or his delegates will suffer undue external pressure and that they will act in accordance with them, but not in law and in accordance with the duly proven facts, ”said Barbosa.
For the time being, former senator Álvaro Uribe Vélez will continue to be deprived of his liberty until a judge with the function of guaranteeing control decides whether or not to revoke the house-to-prison measure ordered by the Investigating Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, when this corporation had jurisdiction of the case.
