A new protection action filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation adds to the legal mess that has unleashed the situation of the Aquarela building in Cartagena, whose demolition was ordered by the Ministry of Culture last May, after it became known a study by the Colombian Society of Engineers (SCI) to ensure that the building has structural flaws, this in addition to the detriment to the visual heritage of the city.
According to what La W reported, the action claims the protection of the right to life, integrity and due process of the city’s inhabitants after the failure of the District to not demolish the building in the moment the order was given, at the same time, that the declaration of public calamity is requested in order to include the National Unit for Risk and Disaster Management (UNGRD) in the process.
Similarly, the existence of the 2018 police action that orders the restitution of public space in that place was reiterated and that so far has not been fulfilled.
