After his meeting with Claudia López and during his ‘Prevention and Action’ program, President Iván Duque spoke of the death of Javier Ordóñez, brutally attacked by members of the Police.
“We saw the painful situation that happened to Javier Ordóñez. We also know that this phenomenon has caused deep indignation, but we have also seen a gallant and quick attitude on the part of our police institution with very clear instructions so that these facts are not only quickly clarified, but that the last consequences are reached ”Said the head of state.
And he added: “Because the public force cannot allow any abuse, that must be a clear message. Because the public force of our country has historically won the love and heart of the Colombian people ”.
Duque read the names of the victims in the disturbances in Bogotá and said that “we will work quickly so that in the events in which their loved ones died, they can have not only clarification, but an exemplary sanction.”
In addition, he pointed out that members of the security forces have been injured, for which he expressed his “strong and clear rejection of any form of violence.” He also questioned acts of vandalism in different cities.
The president reported that due to the death of Javier Ordóñez “two people have left the Police and five more have been suspended.”

Duque mentioned that local leaders have the support of the National Government to face acts of violence. Nevertheless, he issued a warning.
“We know that there are facts that can obscure the permanent excellence of many activities of the public force, but we cannot allow them to be stigmatized with speeches that call for hatred, that seek to capitalize politically on the negative feelings that have been set on fire in the citizenry,” he said. .
Finally, he confirmed that 140 arrests have been made for acts of vandalism in recent days.
