President Iván Duque announced this Wednesday that the declaration of a health emergency, caused by covid-19, scheduled to end on November 30, will now be extended until February 28, 2021, that is, for 90 more days.

According to the president, the decision is made by virtue of the analysis of the behavior of the virus, both in the country and in the world.

“We with the Ministry of Health have made a rigorous evaluation and I have given a clear instruction: The health emergency runs until February 28, 2021 and we do it to maintain control and detailed monitoring” of the epidemic, said the president .

The president also assured that the Government will be attentive to the evolution of vaccination schemes, both in the multilateral order, as well as those that can be finalized bilaterally in this period, of which this Wednesday the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, assured that 20 million vaccines were guaranteed to immunize 10 million Colombians.

In addition to the extension of the emergency, the concept of selective isolation will also be in force until at least February 28, 2021. “We are also extending the concept of preventive isolation, with responsible distancing, it is a selective isolation to continue advancing towards safe reactivation of our country ”.

The president also called attention to the fact that in the coming holiday season the guard is not lowered, although he did not indicate if there would be greater restrictions or if the same recommendations will be maintained: avoid crowds, washing hands and correct use of mask.

In Colombia, according to the report of the Ministry of Health this Wednesday, there are 1,270,991 confirmed infections, 35,860 deaths caused by the virus and 57,260 active cases with the virus.
