Police abuse: Government responds to Claudia López’s accusations – Government – Politics

The National Government responded this Thursday to the harsh pronouncements that the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, made during this Thursday, against the actions of the Police both in the case of Javier Ordóñez, who died as a result of an abuse of two uniformed men, like what happened on Wednesday night, when in the middle of demonstrations 10 people died and dozens were wounded by gunshots.

The mayor assured that on Wednesday night there was indiscriminate use of force by the Police.

“It is an indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force. 66 injured by firearms, not even in a combat, I have been comparing events and combats in the early 2000s at the height of the armed conflict in Colombia, having 66 civilians injured by firearm the same day, not even in a fight, “Lopez said.

The district president also added that “the relatives ask us to have a serious and independent judicial investigation.”

Faced with this, the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency responded to the mayor that “the enemy is the vandal, not the Police.”

This is the first direct response of the Executive to López in the face of this fact.

Regarding what happened on Wednesday night, President Duque rejected the “violence, vandalism, aggressions that were observed in front of the Public Force and many of the facilities that the Force has to protect citizens.”

“The Public Force of our country has been heroic, it has worked with excellence, but there have also been times when some of its members do not keep the honor of the uniform. We cannot let voices arise that stigmatize our Public Force. The Police annually carries out 30 million procedures, “said the head of state.
