This weekend, the surroundings of the El Ubérrimo farm, which is located in Córdoba, were quite crowded before the visit of several political leaders to former President Álvaro Uribe. In these meetings, the presidential elections of 2022 would have been an important part of the agenda.
Last Friday, the head of the U Party, Dilian Francisca Toro, would have met with former President Uribe. Sources from this community confirmed to this newspaper that the newly elected director was in Sincelejo on Thursday and traveled to Córdoba to attend a private meeting, this would have been the meeting with the leader of the Government party.
On the other hand, on the morning of this Tuesday, La Silla Vacía published that on Saturday afternoon, the three main members of the Char house also traveled to El Ubérrimo to meet Álvaro Uribe. Fuad, Alejandro (former mayor of Barranquilla) and Arturo (president of the Senate) Char participated in this meeting. It should be noted that the patriarch of this political family has been very close to Álvaro Uribe, so much so that he was an ambassador during his government and there have been several meetings that have been referred to as mere meetings of friends.
In this last meeting, on Saturday, the presidential elections of 2022 would have been included, a matter that would also have been discussed with Toro. This suggests that the chips are already moving for the presidential jousts that will take place in a year and a half. It is worth remembering that in the second round, the now president Iván Duque had the support of the U and the Char house.
The latter were criticized, because in 2018, former Vice President Germán Vargas Lleras was defeated in the regions where the Barranquilla family supposedly had its political fortresses. At the time, it was even claimed that this episode caused an important clash between the Charista and Vargasllerista wing of Cambio Radical.
Now, the Char have taken a greater power within the party, this is seen represented in that Arturo Char was designated like the candidate of the collective to occupy the presidency of the Senate. For this reason, the rumors of a supposed meeting between Uribe and the three Chars to discuss presidential issues suggest a new alliance to remove a single candidate from the right-wing sectors by 2022.
In the case of the U, at the moment there has been no talk of bringing their own candidate to the presidential jousts. With the departure from its ranks of Armando Benedetti and Roy Barreras, the latter with clear intentions of being presidential, the community lost two of its largest voters.
