Gustavo Petro, leader of Human Colombia, welcomed Senator Armando Benedetti who, after announcing that he was resigning from the U party, surprised, in the last hours, by revealing that his steps are now going towards this left-wing community.
Indeed, this Thursday the congressman surprised with a video in which he announced that he is “walking” towards the movement that the former mayor of Bogotá guides and a sure candidate for the Presidency.
Benedetti explained: “The center does not exist in any political theory, what happens is that in Colombia people feel sorry to say whether it is from the right or from the left.”
Benedetti was one of the most visible figures of the ‘U’ party. “One cannot be in a party that is neither the opposition, nor the government, that does not help peace, that does not help basic income, that does not help microenterprises,” he said.
“In that game I think I have leftovers and, therefore, I am going to be calm. I hope they are also very calm and happy that I am leaving”he explained.

Other parliamentarians, such as Luis Fernando Velasco praised the decision: “Armando Benedetti’s a daring, intelligent and risky bet may be the first of several national political leaders who end up trying to help Petro.”
Armando Benedetti Villaneda was born in Barranquilla and is a social communicator and journalist. His first contact with politics was in 1991, when he served as an advisor to the National Constituent Assembly.
In 2002 he was elected Representative to the Chamber for Bogotá. During the four years, Benedetti stood out for being a defender of the government of President Uribe.
For the 2006 elections, he joined the “U” Party and was elected by this movement as Senator of the Republic.
The Visible Congress page informs that as Senator, Benedetti filed the project that allows the application of Euthanasia in Colombia, has supported the Project that provides social security and economic rights for Gay couples and held the debate on the treatment of victims in the justice and peace process and the Minister of Defense on false positives.
He defended the transfer law, collapsed the government initiative that sought to penalize the consumption of minimum doses in public places and continues to work for the approval in Congress of a government educational policy against the consumption of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.
Then he was President of Congress. From this position, according to the same page cited, he promoted the Campaign for Transparency that created a section on the main page of the Senate in which citizens can consult the name of the senator, the party of choice, the vote obtained, his affidavit. of assets, the Conflict of Interest Registry and the names of the members of the Senator’s Legislative Work Unit (UTL).
Now he joins Petro, one of the leaders who has expressed his decision to participate in the 2022 presidential elections.
