After the surprise resignation of the senator Roy Barreras, to the party of La U, where he was active for 12 years, the congressman started the path of a referendum that seeks to revoke the mandate of President Iván Duque, what is currently not regulated in the Political Constitution of Colombia. Barreras indicated that it will begin with the collection of signatures and that the goal, in principle, will be to gather 1,800,000 rubrics to go ahead with his proposal although he is optimistic and therefore believes that he will collect more.
“There are six months to do it, I hope there will be more, and that once that popular mandate reaches Congress, the call will be given free rein at the polls. If that happens, perhaps, we will not have two more years of this indolent government and we can advance the presidential election, “said the congressman when he presented the referendum.
Now, a new politician joins his initiative: the senator of Colombia Humana, Gustavo Petro. This Monday, the former presidential candidate assured that he not only joins the referendum proposed by Roy Barreras but also proposes some points to add: that there is a minimum vital income; ensure the payroll subsidy for small and medium urban and rural enterprises; change the health and pension system and increase the budget for public education.
I propose to join the referendum that Roy is proposing and include:
Minimum vital income.
The payroll subsidy for small and medium urban and rural enterprises
The order to change the health and pension system.
The increase in the budget for public education– Gustavo Petro (@petrogustavo) November 2, 2020
