The Argentine coach spoke with the sports network TNT Sports on various topics, one of them his departure from the Colombian national team.
This 2021 will be three years since José Néstor Pekerman stopped being the coach of the Colombian team.
Despite the fact that enough time has passed, until now the official version of the coach was not known about the reasons that motivated him and the Colombian Football Federation not to renew the contract with the national team.

Last Wednesday, Pekerman spoke to the media, for the first time in a long time, in a televised interview he gave to the Argentine sports channel TNT Sports.
In the conversation, the former coach of the tricolor spoke about many topics such as the current situation of Lionel Messi, the role of Juan Román Riquelme as Boca Juniors leader, his time in Argentina and his departure from the Colombian national team.
In this regard, Pekerman said: “There was a bit of everything. I have no proof that anyone tried to get me out. There are times when there is a crisis and it seems that nobody wants to grab anything. But there are also other moments when things are going well, when it is seen that there is potential and other desires and other situations begin to appear. The competition is like that and, above all, in all places there is always a desire to achieve something more ”.

Apparently the intention of his departure, according to what the Federation communicated to the Argentine strategist, would have been to take Colombia to the next level. This, as a result of the results that the selection had in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, on which the coach also shared his opinion.
“We came to the World Cup with great enthusiasm, but we had unexpected inconveniences, fatalities, as happens in any championship. We went to the round of 16, after winning our group, and in the game against England, which was very tough, we did not have our great figure, with our strategist on the offensive side, the destabilizing player who was James Rodríguez. It was a very big fatality for us ”.
In addition, the coach assured that he feels calm and satisfied with what he did with the national team, in which he was from 2012 to 2018 and with which he participated in the World Cups in Brazil in 2014 and in Russia in 2018.

Regarding his distance from the media, Pekerman explained: “When I was in Colombia, the contractual conditions said that I was only going to give statements at press conferences. It was hard because there for people it is common for the coach to speak to the media, but finally I think a different stage began and in the end we all got used to it ”.
On the other hand, the coach also referred to the moment that Lionel Messi spends in Barcelona and described it as one of the hardest in the Argentine star’s career.
Pekerman also spoke of his time with the Argentina team, which he described as the greatest achievement that a coach from that country can achieve. He also referred to the 2006 World Cup and the elimination at the hands of Germany, in his words, as “one of the most frustrating defeats in history.”

Currently Pekerman is still without a team. Although he assured that he has received offers since leaving Colombia in 2018, he said that he is calm and that for now he will not direct in the near future.
