Passengers infected with coronavirus arrive in Colombia

The director of the entity, Juan Francisco Espinosa, confirmed that the most recent cases were registered with travelers from Mexico, Spain and Ecuador.

Espinosa was emphatic that this was a single case, it is already “extremely serious” and that is why they started administrative investigations to determine possible penalties for passengers and airlines.

Said behavior was also reported to the General Prosecutor’s Office and “the corresponding annotations have been made in the entity’s information exchange systems, with the purpose that the immigration authorities of the other countries know the actions of these travelers and the risk that they can represent for the country ”.

Migración Colombia explained that since September 19 to date, more than 100,000 travelers have entered the national territory and around 380 have been inadmissible for not meeting the established entry requirements.

For that reason, a strong call for attention to travelers to assume their responsibility towards other passengers, the airport sector and the country, at the time of undertaking his return trip to Colombia.

So far, there have been 8 cases of travelers who have arrived in the country being positive for the virus.

Although the number of registered cases is equivalent to less than 1% of the total number of travelers who have arrived in the country since the opening of international flights, “it is inadmissible that a person knowing that he is positive for COVID-19 decides to embark on a flight and putting other passengers and an entire country at risk, ”explained Espinosa.

Since October 1, the date on which the PCR test began to be required for all travelers from abroad, more than 380 travelers have been inadmissible: 34% of them American, 16% Venezuelan, 13% Dominican, 8% Mexican and 3% Peruvian.

64% of the inadmissions have occurred at the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, 26% at the Rafael Núñez de Cartagena, another 4% at the Ernesto Cortissoz de Barranquilla, 3% have tried to enter through the José María Córdova de Rionegro and 2% for the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón Airport that provides its services to the city of Cali.

Regarding Colombian citizens who are arriving without PCR testing to the national territory, Espinosa reported that, at present, about 48% of Colombians are arriving in the country without this document.
