Specifically, of two products: “Set of rattles x 3” and “Set of baby rattles”, which had pieces that could detach and suffocate or drown children.

This is described by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) in the decision in which it ensures that Panamericana failed to ensure the safety of the product aimed at minors, a population considered vulnerable in Colombia.

According to the statement, more than 2,400 units of the aforementioned products were found, which were placed on the Panamericana market in different cities. Of that total, 727 units have already been withdrawn from warehouses, but there are still 1,688 units.

According to the SIC, Panamericana “put the safety and life of minors at risk by marketing the products Set of rattles and Set of Baby rattles, toys that under normal conditions of use are capable of releasing small pieces that represent a danger of suffocation, that are not suitable for children 0-36 months of age and pose a risk even for minors over that age ”.

Sanction against Panamericana in Colombia

The sanction against this chain of stores was given through Resolution No. 73872 of 2020 and the SIC is emphatic in stating that said baby rattle products “contained small parts that could detach and cause suffocation or drowning in minors, population group considered very vulnerable ”, says the statement.

The regulator also points out that the company did not adopt the necessary measures so that its end users did not compromise their health at any time.

It also details that Panamericana put some warnings on the base of the box, but with minimal visibility and with a very small text, something that did not alert parents to the possible danger.

Panamericana, in addition to withdrawing the aforementioned products, had to publish a notice about their risk and publish information about it on its website.

This is the publication made by the SIC, in which it reports on the decision:
