What the Government said

Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo defended the “democratic” character of President Iván Duque and said that on some occasions it is intended to ignore the “presumption of innocence” of the military related to these events.

Likewise, he defended the intelligence and counterintelligence tasks carried out by the State and insisted that these should be carried out “within the framework of the Constitution and the law.”

He added that the National Government “anticipated” in the inquiries for this episode and that among the actions that have been carried out is requesting an “audit” in the Army of “the intelligence and counterintelligence activities” of the last 10 years.

“It is not true that the Government has done nothing,” said Holmes Trujillo, adding that the Executive has not “rolled its eyes” before situations of this nature.

The official made it clear that the forces have always been in a position to “cooperate” with the authorities’ investigations and that, in addition, there are already three inquiries into this episode.
