Alejandra Vásquez, one of the women to whom Judge Ramiro Eliseo Flórez denied marrying, said in Blue Radio why did you go to court and not to a notary’s office to celebrate your equality marriage.
The 23-year-old, who was going to join Julieth Ramos, 34, explained the procedures they have had to overcome because she is not from Colombia.
“We had decided to do it through the notaries, as is the most common, but we had several problems because I am Venezuelan. I have resided here for three years, I have a residence permit ”, he revealed.
“However, in different notaries we had problems due to the issue of papers, postilla, legalization and above all because different notaries still do not validate the residence permit as a citizenship document and required an updated passport,” he said.
The latter was a difficult requirement to fulfill because, he pointed out, “the situation in Venezuela is complicated”, moreover “with the issue of pandemic it became difficult to travel”.
He stated that given the refusals “we made the decision to do so by the court, hoping for good news, or perhaps more encouraging, but what we received was a rejection.”
“As a couple we are calm. I do not feel rejection for being Venezuelan, I feel rejection rather because of the criteria that certain people have and I am saddened and a little outraged that these things happen, especially now, when it is assumed that there are laws approved in Colombia, “.
“I am Catholic, I am respectful of the religions of each person, of the criteria of each person, but from then on until those criteria are taken to make will in the decisions of another, it saddens us both,” she said, regretting the attitude del togado, who has been harshly criticized and could face a lawsuit for prevaricate.
