The Secretary of Mobility of Bogotá, Nicolás Estupiñán, announced that On Monday, May 25, the life-saving camera system begins to function in Bogotá.
They will be located in 92 points and there will be a total of 72 cameras that will detect the following infractions via photodetection:
– Excess speed (which would carry a fine of 438,000 pesos).
– Do not slow down in school zones
– Go over the red light.
– Circulate during peak and plate restraint.
– Non-compliance with the mechanical technical review and Soat.

The cameras have been operational since last year, reporting detected violations. Between December 10 and May 7, 28,794 notices were sent.
“The court has never said that the photodetection process is not valid,” Estupiñán warned in the face of the legal mess that complicated the process a few months ago.
The Ministry of Transport has already reviewed the points where the cameras will be arranged, how the signaling is and they supervise the calibration.
This system of fines is complementary to the surveillance on the road made by the Traffic Police. For the operation of this technological tool, nearly 40 billion pesos have been invested.
The objective is to reduce road accidents.
How does it work?
1. The cameras record continuously 24 hours a day and generate evidence of the alleged infractions (And, in any case, verify if the vehicle, for any reason, is exempt from any of the restrictions, such as the peak and plate).
2. Traffic Police verify the evidence and, if the proof is valid, it imposes the summons.
3. In the three days following the validation of the infraction, The summons will be sent to the registered address at the RUNT. So it is key that the data is up to date.
4. Payment of the fine may be made within 11 business days from the notification of the fine. You can access a 50% discount if you take a pedagogical course.
Please note: Due to the suspension of procedural terms, decreed with the quarantine that runs until May 25, any challenge process can only be done after May 25.
