“Nobody has to make ultimatums to this government”

This Saturday, during a visit to the department of Nariño, President Iván Duque referred, without mentioning it, to the indigenous minga, whose representatives have demanded that he meet to discuss the reasons for the demonstration.

“Nobody has to make ultimatums to this government, nobody has to summon it, because in the constructive dialogue we have shown that we are always thinking about the reality of the citizens,” said Duque.

The president also stated that “this has been a dialogue government, in the territories, with all sectors of the population.”

The indigenous minga, after passing through Cali, moved to Bogotá, due to the disagreement generated by Duque’s absence in the dialogues.

During their stay in the capital of Valle del Cauca, the representatives of the mobilization met twice, without reaching an agreement, with a government delegation led by the Minister of the Interior, Alicia Arango.

Leaders of the Regional Indigenous Council, CRIC, have said that the minga is not protest but political.

The main reasons for this protest are “the defense of life, peace, territory and democracy.”

The indigenous minga is expected to arrive in the country’s capital between Sunday and Monday.
