However, the visit of the head of state was criticized by the mayor of Tibú, Corina Durán, who reproached the loan granted by the president to the Avianca airline and denounced the little allocation of resources to municipalities of Catatumbo, North of Santander.
The official warned about the difficult health situation and the low number of ICU beds suffered by the municipality, which does not have a second-level hospital.

This region is going to have investments that exceed 620,000 million pesos
“Will President Iván Duque be in Tibú, my question is, Mr. President, are you coming to lend us money to buy ICU ventilators or beds for the North Regional ESE? or does he come to talk about security? Because the reality that we are living is another“said the mayor.
Meanwhile, President Iván Duque arrived at Tibú at noon this Thursday. The president indicated that together with the leadership of the Military Forces and the National Police, he will evaluate strategies to counter crime in Catatumbo.

Because just as I lend him money @avianca because they needed to work, that’s how we are here in the municipality, people are dying, because we don’t have an ICU BED, our hospital is not a hospital, it’s a health center, we need a second-level hospital.

“This region will have investments that exceed 620,000 million pesos, which will be reflected in better water quality, in tertiary roads and in rural electrification,” said Iván Duque at the end of the meeting from the military canton of Tibú.
Although the head of state highlighted a 29.9 percent reduction in homicides in Norte de Santander, these figures contrast with the massacres and mass displacements registered in recent months in this region.
The local leaders were hermetic in the face of the new measures and insist on demanding from the National Government plans to replace illicit crops and social care for the region.
