A new measure will take effect in the country from January to face the high numbers of injuries and deaths caused by traffic accidents involving motorcycles.

This is resolution 20203040023385, which establishes the minimum conditions for the use of protective helmets for drivers and companions of motorcycles, motorcycles, motorcycles, motorcycles and ATVs.

The helmet must be used according to parameters such as that the head of the driver or the grill must be completely inserted in the helmet, that is, It is not valid to have it above the head and with the face uncovered.

In addition, the retention system must be secured below the lower jaw, which means that the straps have to be closed, no broken straps or broken or incomplete snaps will be allowed.

Neither will you be able to have cell phones or other similar systems that come between the head and the helmet, Unless hands-free accessories are used, for example headphones.

On the other hand, motorcyclists who have helmets with a movable face cover, that is, the front part, must always have it closed and secured so that there is protection for the face of the driver or grill.

For those who do not comply with these measures, fines of 15 daily minimum wages were established, which for 2020 they correspond to 438,900 pesos, but as the minimum wage changes in 2021, the fine will cost more.

Regarding the new measure, the director of the Road Safety Agency, Luis Lota, said that this is a valuable contribution to protect the lives of motorcyclists on the road. “It is intended that motorcyclists and their companions comply with minimum conditions when using the helmet.
