The attack against LGTBI people does not stop. In the middle of an apparent robbery, a man who was dedicated to decoration and design was assassinated, while a maker of the Barranquilla Carnival and Gay Carnival was injured, in events that were recorded Sunday night in the La Manga neighborhood , southwest of Barranquilla.

The mortal victim was identified as Maikey Enrique Gómez Castro, 34, who had four bullet wounds in the chest, while Juan Carlos Mattos García, 55, recorded two gunshot wounds: one to the face, to the height of the right cheekbone, and another in one of his hands.

The police report indicates that the victims were at around 11 at night on Carrera 15A 1 with Calle 85, in the ‘La Cancha’ sector. Two men on a motorcycle arrived there, who would be the alleged robbers.

Both victims were taken to PASO La Manga. Gomez, according to doctors, was admitted without vital signs.

For his part, Mattos García is receiving medical attention at the same healthcare center.

Robinson Gómez, Maikey’s father, pointed out on the outskirts of Legal Medicine that his son left his house in the Me Quejo neighborhood to eat a fast food.

“He said he was coming back. When the news reached us, we ran to the scene of the crime, but they had already picked him up. There they told us that it was possibly a robbery, although they say that it could also be that they were going to kill another person. Things are confusing. I only ask for justice, ”said the father of the murdered person.

Let it be investigated!

The organization Caribe Afirmativo assured that there is no certainty about the motives that led to the occurrence of these events, since there is a series of versions which are the subject of investigation.

“This homicide and the attempted homicide against two openly gay people are added to the figures that have been recorded in the department of Atlántico, which ranks first with the highest rate of violent deaths in the region”, the organization noted.

With the death of Gómez Castro, there are 8 LGBTI people who have been murdered so far this year in the Department: two lesbian women, three trans women and three gay men. Six of the cases were in Barranquilla and two in Soledad.
