According to the Colombian institution, the three Boston Wheeler model speedboats (with their respective engines and weapons) were moored at a fluvial control post on the Meta River (department of Vichada), however, the strong current of that tributary would have dragged the boats to the Venezuelan side without the personnel of the Navy could do something to avoid it.

“The fact arises when the sentry in charge of the safety of the boats realizes that, due to the effects of the strong current, the boats are dragged by the river, without having the opportunity to recover them,” explains the Navy, adding that although units of the Naval Force of the East were ordered to move to retrieve the boats, these were already on the side of the neighboring country.

“The Eastern Naval Force proceeded to establish communication with the Venezuelan Navy Naval Post in Puerto Páez, in order to find out about the situation and coordinate the recovery of the boats, to which they expressed their willingness to support, informing that they would carry out the location of the boats and the corresponding delivery ”, says the official statement.

From the Venezuelan side, the armed forces of that country published a statement and photographs of the boats and the weapons they had. So far, the return of the three boats and their weapons depend on an authorization from the superior command of the Venezuelan authorities.
