After the departure of Juan Carlos Osorio from Atlético Nacional, the board appointed Pompilio Páez and Alejandro Restrepo as the technicians in charge of leading the team for the match against River Plate of Uruguay.
Pompilio was Osorio’s right hand throughout this process and he will stay for this South American Cup match.
But this is not the first time that Alejandro Restrepo has led the Antioquia team. A little over a year ago, he was in charge of Nacional after the departure of Autuori.
In January 2018, Restrepo was presented as the coach of the sub-20 team and has been aware of the club’s sports development in the lower teams.
His career in professional football is not known, he has spent his entire career in football in Antioquia. His resume tells that he was a coach at the Student Sports Club (2004 to 2012 – 2016 to 2018); in the Antioquia Soccer League as technical director of the Antioquia Youth, Pre-youth and Infant team (2013 to 2014) obtaining 5 national titles; and in the Colombia Sub 17 team that reached the final hexagonal of the 2015 South American Championship that was played in Paraguay, where he was a technical assistant.
He has a degree in physical education from the University of Antioquia, with a specialization in soccer coach from the Argentine Soccer Technicians Association ATFA – AFA and a diploma in Soccer Management.
In 2019, Restrepo was for four games as Nacional’s coach. One was for the South American Cup and beat Fluminense 1-0, while in the League they played the last three games of the home run with a victory over Cali and defeat against (2-1) Tolima and (2-3) Junior.
