A doctor and Nairo Quintana’s physiotherapist (Arka-Samsic) remained under arrest this Tuesday for the second consecutive day in the prolongation of their interrogation on suspicions of doping in the environment of the Colombian cyclist during the Tour de France ended on Sunday.
The Marseille Prosecutor’s Office that directs the investigation indicated in a statement that the investigations into both have to do with five charges that could lead to penalties of up to five years in jail and a fine of 75,000 euros.
It involves the administration and prescription of substances or methods to athletes without medical justification; of the aid and incitement to the use of those substances or prohibited methods for athletes; of its transportation and possession; from the possession of poisonous substances; and the possession of medicines without a regular supporting document.
The Prosecutor intends to report again on Wednesday morning on the situation in which both will remain at the end of the interrogations.
The Public Ministry confirmed that the police also questioned on Monday, but without putting them under arrest, cyclists of the team.
Although it does not specify who they were, the French press leaked the names of Nairo Quintana himself and his brother, Drayer, who also played the French round with him.
The investigators want to verify if they could commit the crimes of possession of substances or use of prohibited methods for an athlete, and of illegal transportation and possession of poisonous substances.
The second of these two crimes is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of 375,000 euros and the first with up to one year and 3,750 euros.
