Colombian Miguel Flórez will be Nairo Quintana’s new teammate on the Arkea team. The 24-year-old born in Duitama will leave the Italian formation Androni Giocattoli, in which he was for the last two years.
Before the pandemic, Flórez had good results and that is why he caught the attention of Nairo and the directors of his team. The young man from Boyacá won a stage and he was fifth in the general classification of the Vuelta a San Juan, the same position he had in the Tour Colombia.
Last year, Flórez participated in the Giro d’Italia and was able to complete that first big lap of his career. The Colombian finished the three weeks in 72nd place, being the fifth best national rider in that edition of the competition., behind Miguel Ángel López, Sebastián Henao, Esteban Chaves and Iván Ramiro Sosa.
In this way, the French Arkea team will have four Colombian cyclists in the next season: Nairo Quintana, Dayer Quintana, Winner Anacona and Miguel Flórez. It is striking that they are all from Boyacá.
Nairo’s new partner will join the concentration of European training in the coming days in which preparations are beginning thinking about the calendar of the next season.
For its part, Quintana is in Colombia recovering of the operation on both of his knees that he underwent last month, an operation that will leave him unable to train on his bicycle until next January.
