The technical director of Colombia was consulted by the Iranian newspaper Farhikhtegan Daily about Maradona and incidentally asked about his presence in the Colombian National Team, which on the last date of the South American Qualifiers was left without scoring points and suffered a hard thrashing in Quito for part of the Ecuadorians. The two defeats caused the coffee growers to leave the top 10 of the FIFA rankings.

The Portuguese assured that his work with the national team is coming to an end.

And although in recent days it was learned that the leaders of the National Team are already looking for a new technical director, before making Queiroz’s dismissal official, the Portuguese coach broke silence by stating in the interview with the Iranian media: “Yes, my adventure with Colombia is coming to an end ”.

So it is presumed that the Colombian Football Federation would be agreeing with the Portuguese coach his compensation, a sum of around two million dollars. Queiroz did not manage to be in command of the National Team for two years, his relationship was in February 2019.

Meanwhile, it is unknown who would be the new coach in charge of the Colombian National Team, facing the next knockout matches, which will be in March 2021, when he will face Brazil.

The Portuguese, who spoke to the press for the first time since the match with Ecuador, said nothing more about his future, during the interview in which he also referred to the death of Diego Maradona.

Queiroz, a former coach of Iran and Portugal, arrived in Colombia in February last year and has since led 18 games, of which he has won nine, drawn five and lost four.

Under his command, the coffee team reached the 2019 Copa América quarterfinals, in which it was eliminated by penalties by Chile, and currently occupies seventh place in the qualifying rounds with four points, eight behind the leader Brazil.

Colombia’s next matches are scheduled for next March against Brazil in Barranquilla and against Paraguay in Asunción for the fifth and sixth round of the qualifying rounds to Qatar 2022, respectively.
