Willie Salcedo Benavides died this Thursday, November 12 of pulmonary complications.

At dawn on Thursday, November 12, the death of salsa musician Willie Salcedo Benavides was known due to pulmonary complications related to covid-19. The musician was admitted to the Cafam clinic on Calle 92, in Bogotá.

Benavides was originally from Corozal, Sucre, where he was born 66 years ago and was baptized as Hernando Salcedo Benavides, but in his childhood someone close to him began to call him Willie, a name that he used throughout his artistic career.

Son of the famous Pedro Salcedo, creator of the music of The colored skirt, wrote and composed Corozal y Sincelejo and La estereofónica, among many other hits recorded by national and international orchestras, such as Billos Caracas Boys.

Benavides was considered one of the best percussionists in the country and a cultist of Colombian salsa. He also worked as a composer and producer in some record companies, where he created the soundtrack for the popular novel Las Juanas, in 1997.

Salcedo leaves with his departure four children he had with his wife Diana Gómez, who wrote some heartfelt words about the coastal musician.

Today I can give infinite thanks to God for the time he allowed me to share with you, for every moment we spent together. There are no words to describe the lack that you will make me but even though it is hard, the certainty that we will see each other again is greater, because it was God who promised us and he never lies. I trust that you are better than ever now, that you just got ahead of us. I love you and I’ll love you forever.

Lucho Salcedo, Willie’s brother, revealed last weekend that he had very severe pneumonia, that he was being treated and had not been able to respond to treatment. “We must leave everything in the hands of God and we must pray for the speedy recovery of my brother Willie,” he said.
