The debate on the motion of censure against Trujillo arose after a series of questions about his management, due to alleged irregularities in the Public Force, which, the parties to the discussion say, it seems to be against the citizens and not to protect them.
Precisely one of the reasons why it was proposed to remove the minister from his post was the increase in massacres in the country, which according to the Government has to do with the struggle to seize land for drug trafficking. On this issue, the official was summoned, last week, to a political control debate, but he did not go.
Trujillo is also in the eye of Congress for lcases of abuse of authority, starting with the one that caused the death of the young Dilan Cruz, following that of Javier Ordóñez, and ending with that of Juliana Giraldo, a transgender woman killed by a soldier who shot at the car in which she was riding, among others.
To this is added that parliamentarians, such as Jorge Enrique Robledo and Iván Cepeda, demand the presence of United States troops in the country from the Minister of Defense.
Although there are several questions against the defense minister, according to El Espectador, there are not enough votes in favor of the motion of no confidence, at least in the House of Representatives, to remove him from office.
In addition to the support of the Democratic Center, Trujillo has the support of the Conservative party, the Radical Change party and some representatives of the U party., said the newspaper.
For this reason, even one of the promoters of the debate, the representative Inti Asprilla, acknowledged in the newspaper that the motion of censure will not prosper; even so, the discussion is made “so that public opinion knows that Carlos Holmes Trujillo’s portfolio was too large and he does not know how to handle the Public Force,” according to the parliamentarian.
This debate on the motion of censure against the head of the Ministry of Defense will be the first of two that were scheduled. The other will be held in the Senate on October 13, where the final vote will be held to see whether Trujillo should leave office or not.
About a year ago, former Minister Guillermo Botero – Trujillo’s predecessor – faced a similar situation in Congress, which led him to resign.
