As it arrived, it left: without a trace or clues that allow you to track it.

We are talking about the strange metallic monolith that was found in the desert of the state of Utah, in the United States, and that, according to official information, disappeared from its location last Friday, November 27.

(This is what was known, at first, of the discovery of the monolith).

How did it get there? Who is responsible for it? Why did it disappear? … many questions and few answers.

The discovery

On November 18, 2020, agents of the Aero Bureau Unit, of the Utah Department of Public Safety (USA), carried out an overflight in the desert of the state to map the presence of the bighorn sheep (a type of ram) in the zone.

What they found, however, was a curious surprise: a metallic monolith of 3.5 meters, with 3 faces and very bright.

The officials descended to the place, photographed themselves with the object and even remembered the movie ‘2001: Odyssey in Space’, since a similar monolith appears in it.

“I guess he’s a new wave artist or something or, you know, someone who was a huge fan of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey.”Bret Hutchins, the mission pilot, told CNN regarding the possible person responsible for the monolith.

After the finding went viral (as it was recorded on video and in photos), the Utah Department of Security reported that there was no information on who could locate the object in the desert.

The body also reminded citizens that “It is illegal to install structures or art pieces without authorization on public land administered by the federal government, no matter what planet you are from ”.

Further, To avoid a ‘pilgrimage’ to the area, the authorities did not reveal the exact location of the bright column.

It was found

Despite the intention, several People did decide to try to find the monolith and some did.

One of them was David Surber, a former US Army infantry officer who shared his ‘discovery’ on his social media.

“It’s aluminum and it’s not magnetic,” he said about the piece on his Instagram account.
, in which he shared several videos and photos.

“We received credible testimonies that the sculpture was removed by an unknown person”, noted the Utah Land Management Agency.

Who did it and why? It is not known and there is no certainty whether it will be known what happened, since inquiring about what happened corresponds to the local sheriff (a police figure) and, so far, no action has been taken on the matter.

Some hypotheses about the monolith They point out that it was installed in the desert in 2016 and that it would belong to artist John McCracken.

However, McCracken died in 2011 …

In a conversation with ‘The New York Times’, his son, Patrick McCracken, assured that the artist confessed, long before his death, that he would like to leave his works in “lost environments and to be found”.
