According to information from La República, the Ministry of Labor would already have ready the increase in the minimum wage in Colombia: 3.5%, the equivalent of 30,723 pesos, approximately.
This figure exceeds by 0.8 percentage points the last proposal of the businessmen, which remained at 2.7%, that is, 23,700 pesos.
Although the Government has not ruled on the matter, analysts agree that this adjustment, as expected, is closer to the proposals of the unions, who staged, together with the unions, a debate that did not reach an agreement and was left in the hands of the Ministry of Labor.
Minimum wage Colombia 2021: it will be by decree
With this, the basic minimum would go from 877,803 pesos to 908,526 pesos. With the increase in the connectivity assistance, which would be 6% (6,171 pesos) and the transportation assistance, the total figure would be 1,017,551 pesos.
For Stefano Farné, director of the Labor Observatory of the Externado University, the most probable is that 3.5% is the maximum that the businessmen were willing to pay and thus they would have made it known to the Government.
“It doesn’t seem like a bad arrangement to me, considering the times we live in. There are very large losses for both employers and workers. This is a very atypical year to set an increase in the minimum wage, ”he said.
Until the last moment, the workers’ centrals maintained that the minimum increase should be 13.9%, In other words, leave it at a million pesos, plus a transportation aid of 120,000 pesos.
In recent statements, Ángel Custodio Cabrera, Minister of Labor, has hinted that the Government will be based on the classic formulas that measure productivity and inflation to define the minimum

At the time, the Ministry of Finance demonstrated its support for the unions’ proposal, when they presented their plan for a 2% increase.
“The feasible thing is to start discussing the increase based on inflation. I don’t think inflation will reach 2%, let’s put 1.5% on it this year. In a situation with this unemployment and these costs, the increase must be reasonable, “the head of the economic portfolio told La República.
