In the semifinals of the 2020 BetPlay Dimayor League, Millonarios received in El Campín, for the second time in that contest, Once Caldas. Let’s remember that they had already met on the first day of the group stage.
The Albiazul team started extremely active and gave the first scare two minutes into the game. Emerson Rodríguez left Manizale captain Andrés Felipe Correa on the ground and sent a flush cross that Juan Camilo Salazar could not capitalize on.
Just Salazar, who looked quite active at the beginning of the game, made a great play on the edge of the area and unleashed a left foot at mid-range that Gerardo Ortíz controlled well.
Once Caldas arrived just after 20 minutes. Corner kick from the right that Correa headed in total solitude, but his shot came smoothly into the hands of Juan Moreno. Later the blue responded with, again, Salazar from the middle distance.
Little by little those led by Hubert Bodhert were gaining confidence. They became strong in the back area and came out against fast.
At 34 ‘there would be an extremely clear one for the premises. Corner kick in favor that after a rebound was left in Matías de Los Santos. The Uruguayan controlled as he could and finished forced, but Ortíz saved with just enough.
Six minutes later, an old acquaintance of the ambassador box almost scored on his own door. Rodriguez sent a rained center to the area, Martín Payares, who was referring to Cristian Arango, headed in and the ball almost slipped into his goal.
In the second 45 minutes, the Eleven began to arrive more over the goal of ‘Juanito’ Moreno. Dayro Moreno tried from medium distance, Méndez García from the aerial game and Juan David Rodríguez as the axis in all.
Millionaires took 13 minutes to arrive. The ‘Chicho’ Arango made a great personal play on the right wing and entering the area released a shot that Ortíz saved. Moments later, Mackalister Silva received a deep ball that tried to raise over the rival goalkeeper, but it went wide.
The visit continued to prevail. Little by little they were encouraged, while the premises looked messy and extremely imprecise. The game was developing as the ‘Blanco Blanco’ wanted it.
Diego Abadía entered the blue to give a hand in the offensive zone. First he tried with a powerful shot from medium distance and then with a header after Silva’s center, both times Ortíz appeared.
In the 90th minute came the clearest of the game. Free kick from the side for the Once, the ball went to the near post and Arango, wanting to reject, almost scored at his own goal. The ball crashed on the crossbar, Méndez García hit him first on the rebound, Moreno saved, García finished in the second instance and again the Albiazul goalkeeper saved in an incredible way.
With equality on the scoreboard, the definition went to the shots from the penalty spot. Third time that Millonarios defined their classification in this way (they had already done it in Copa Sudamericana and Copa Betplay, in both they lost).
There were six perfect shots, none of the collectors missed their shot. Now, in the seventh, Andrés Felipe Román scored for the blue and David Gómez missed it for the visit. Those of Alberto Gamero are still in the fight.
