A millionaire Christmas lighting contract in San Andrés led to a delegation from the Comptroller’s Office arriving on the island to investigate the transaction that many question. Some even ask if it was necessary considering that the archipelago goes through many needs after the ravages of Hurricane Iota.
“There are many people in need of food … instead of spending all those millions that are spent on Christmas lighting, give it to the people we do need”, said Melanie Gómez, a resident of San Andrés.
One of the points that most caught the attention of the Comptroller’s Office is why the contract has such a high value if several figures of the center are in rental quality.
While some citizens reject this investment, tourists say that this lighting encourages the economic and tourist reactivation of the island.
In the meantime, the Comptroller’s Office already has in its possession the record of the contract, which has gone through an analysis stage to identify whether or not there are irregularities.
