The Spanish cyclist Mikel Landa (Bahrain-McLaren) was satisfied with the eighth stage of the Tour de France, since, one day after leaving 1 minute and 21 seconds in a fan, he finished the first Pyrenean stage in the group of top.

“Yesterday it was not easy at all to accept what happened to us, but we return to our field and I confirm the feelings that it brings and that I can be with the best,” commented the Bahrain-McLaren rider.

The Basque, who was fourteenth of the stage, is now twelfth overall, 1 minute and 34 seconds behind the leader, the British Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), in a day in which some favorites left time.

“The Tour so far has not been very showy, the favorites have not given much face, but this wears off and today the differences have been seen”, commented Landa.

The Alavs rider assured that he can try something in the second Pyrenean stage, which tomorrow will unite Pau and Laruns.

“Crossing the Pyrenees brings me emotions, although it is not a stage with a high end it can be interesting,” he analyzed.

Carlos Verona: “We can be moderately happy”

Carlos Verona, third in the first Pyrenean stage of the Tour de France, he was “moderately happy” by this result, which contrasts with the time lost with respect to the best of his leader, Enric Mas.

“We were able to be in the fight, both here in front and with the favorites, and although Enric has given up some time, it is a day to be moderately happy,” said the Movistar rider, who entered the finish line behind the goal. French Nans Peters, from AG2R La Mondiale, and Latvian Toms Skujins, from Trek-Segafredo.

“We knew that it could be a complicated day, in which it was important to have people ahead of us because of what could happen in the ports, and just in case we have leaked into the flight. In the end the squad ended up giving us a lot of time and we were able to contest the stage, “he said.

Verona claimed to be “happy with the sensations during the day”, although he admitted feeling some resentment for having been so close to the head without being able to achieve it.

“But I’m happy with the performance shown and the overall effort of the team,” he said.
