The institution announced this Wednesday night, through a statement, that the termination of the contract was an agreement between both parties.

The Humboldt Institute and Miguel Uribe, former Secretary of Government of Bogotá, terminated the contract that the former official had with this institution, according to the Humboldt in a statement published this Wednesday night.

“Having made a rigorous analysis of the implications for the good name of the Institute and the contractor and with the aim of ending a sterile discussion, we made the decision reported here and reiterate our willingness to continue focused on connecting the knowledge generated by the Institute in the matter of biodiversity so that it is available and appropriate by decision makers, in a timely manner ”, reads the Institute’s statement.

The contract, worth $ 120 million, was intended to “support one of the strategic objectives of the Institute, that of the democratization of knowledge. This implies that the research carried out by the Institute is known and appropriate by all types of public, not only the scientific community, where the Institute already has a great position due to the high quality of its scientific researchers, but also for decision makers, this includes mayors, governors, government teams, social organizations, and the community in general. For this, the Institute saw the need to hire someone to support a relationship strategy, which in no way means political lobbying, but rather to facilitate dialogues between science, politics and society. Science has made great contributions to conserving biodiversity, and it is important that they be used for decision-making to positively impact our ecosystems and our relationship with the environment in general, ”Uribe himself told El Espectador in an interview published this Wednesday.

For his part, Humboldt assured that “we will continue with the search for social agreements that allow us to build effective solutions so that the country advances in the democratization and appropriation of knowledge, not without first regretting the polarization that we could observe in social networks. That is why we call for the construction of a society in which, together, we contribute to solutions to the country’s environmental challenges ”.
