Miami street is now called ‘Álvaro Uribe Way’ – Government – Politics

Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, approved the naming of one of its streets ‘Álvaro Uribe Way’ in honor of former president (2002-2010) and former senator Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

(In context: Miami street would now be called ‘Álvaro Uribe Way’)

The street, now named after the former president of Colombia, is located at SW 117th Avenue (between SW 40th Street ‘Bird Road’ and SW 24th Street ‘Coral Way’).

The representative to the Chamber of Colombians abroad, Juan David Vélez, celebrated this event.

“Thank you to Miami-Dade County for recognizing the Great Colombian (sic) AlvaroUribeVel. Approved in a vote in the Miami-Dade county commission to name 117 Avenue Álvaro Uribe Way, “trilled the congressman of the Democratic Center party.

The request was presented by Souto in August of this year supported by the “contribution to the community and the defense of democratic principles that the former president has led.”

Another of the arguments of the Miami Dade commissioners to make this recognition is based on the fact that Colombians are the second group of Hispanics with the largest presence in Miami-Dade County

They also point out that the former senator worked closely with the administrations of US Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, and that Uribe, during his term, was a great ally of the United States.
