Medellín: failure in Palmitas aerial cable leaves people trapped – Medellín – Colombia

After a little more than two hours, a team of firefighters and the Administrative Department of Disaster Risk Management -Dagrd- rescued five people who were trapped in a cabin of the aerial cable of the corregimiento of San Sebastian de Palmitas, in the west of Medellín.

The incident occurred at 12:20 pm on Tuesday when a cable detached and left people trapped in the cabin suspended in midair.

After receiving the report at emergency line 123, firefighters and rescue agencies arrived in the area to start the relief maneuvers. First, three people were assisted and the remaining two required more time.

“The five people are unharmed and are supported by the Medellín Health Secretariat,” explained Alethia Arango, director of Dagrd.

According Daniel Quintero, Mayor of Medellín, the cable that fell affected seven homes and evaluations are being made in this regard.

A similar incident occurred in 2018, when five people from the same family were trapped for more than twelve hours at an altitude of 200 meters by the rupture of a cable line.
