The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) announced this Saturday, through a statement, the hurricane alert on Providencia Island.
In the statement the entity states that it is very possible that the tropical storm Lota becomes a hurricane, on the night of Sunday, November 15, and early morning of November 16.
This storm has caused damage and emergencies in other parts of Colombia, so Ideam warns people to be aware of winds and waves above normal levels.
It is suggested to take extreme measures on the Island of Providencia where we have a warning of hurricane winds with intensities greater than 70 knots (119km / h), and in San Andrés we have a warning of tropical storm winds. The waves may reach heights greater than three or four meters, additionally swells are not ruled out.
Attention should be paid to the Serrana, Serranilla, Roncador and Quitasueño keys, says the institute.
The Government of San Andrés announced a curfew from 3 pm this Sunday until 5 am until Monday, November 16. The measure extends to Monday 16 at the same times.
The Municipal Council for Disaster Risk Management of Dabeiba, Antioquia, reported in the early hours of this Saturday, preliminary, the death of three people and the disappearance of at least 12, in the middle of the emergency due to a landslide, after hours of heavy rain in the municipality.

In the same way, Ideam reported that in the face of heavy rains caused by the lota storm, they are accompanied by electrical activity in sectors of the Sucre, Bolívar, Atlántico, Magdalena and La Guajira coastlines. In addition, the Institute also warned that this storm has a high probability of becoming a major hurricane.
