Jhonnatan Patiño, mayor of Algeria, Cauca, confirmed the massacre of five people in the village of El Mango, in this municipality.

In the preliminary report, Patiño informed EL TIEMPO, it was learned that armed men broke into what would be a nightclub in this district. The attack left five victims; however, the identities of the deceased have not been established.

The attack occurred on the night of this Saturday, November 21. Patiño pointed out that this Sunday morning a security council will be held in which they seek to clarify the events that are shaking this Cauca community.

This new violent event occurs 12 days after the murder of two people, in a string of attacks that left three more seriously injured.

On November 18, residents of the Bombillal village of the El Plateado district, rural area of ​​Algeria, also denounced the murder of a minor by armed groups in this area of ​​the department.

Algeria, together with El Tambo, also in Cauca, is one of the areas of the country with the largest area planted with coca (about 17,000 hectares) and where more than half of the crops of that department are concentratedor, explained the coordinator of the Integrated Illicit Crops Monitoring System, Leonardo Correa.

In this municipality there is tension due to the recent attacks on the population. In the area, dissidents from the Farc, the “Carlos Patiño” structure, paramilitary groups and the Eln guerrilla are present, according to the authorities.
