Marc Hirschi, a Swiss cyclist from the Sunweb team, took victory in the twelfth stage of the 107 edition of the Tour de France, a 218-kilometer day that linked the French towns of Chauvigny and Sarran.
With a time of 5 hours, 8 minutes and 49 seconds, Hirschi won alone in the arrival at Sarran ahead of the French Pierre Rolland (B & B-Vital Concept) and the dans Soren Kragh Andersen (Sunweb), second and third respectively. Spain’s Jess Herrada (Cofidis) finished fifth.
The Swiss left alone in the final part of the stage and after opening a gap of 47 seconds in a twisty descent he managed to make the most of the advantage in the last 5 kilometers of ascending terrain of the stage.
A sextet of cyclists, including Spaniards Luis Len Snchez (Astana) and Imanol Erviti (Movistar), formed the escape of the day. The group of adventurers never got a great advantage over the platoon and was eventually neutralized 36 kilometers from the finish line.
The Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), who donned the leader’s yellow jersey after finishing second in the ninth stage, remained one more day at the head of the individual general classification of the gala round.
The Tour de France will continue this Friday with the dispute of its thirteenth stage, mountainous and 191.5 kilometers between Chtel-Guyon and Puy Mary.
