More than a hundred opponents of Venezuela, among them deputies and collaborators of the president of Parliament, Juan Guaidó, received the pardon of Nicolás Maduro on Monday, in “for the sake of promoting national reconciliation,” the Government reported.
“Presidential pardons are granted to the citizens mentioned below,” said the Minister of Communication, Jorge Rodríguez, reading during a press conference broadcast on government television a list that includes Roberto Marrero, Guaidó’s assistant, as well as the parliamentarians Gilber Caro and Renzo Prieto.
The presidential decree “will enter into force as of its publication,” and the courts “must implement immediate measures of freedom for the persons mentioned,” said the document read by Rodríguez.

The list of about 110 opponents also includes parliamentarian Freddy Guevara, a fellow of Guaidó, who has been at the Chilean embassy in Caracas since November 2017, after leading anti-government protests that left more than 125 dead that year. The Supreme Court of Justice, TSJ, accused of serving Chavismo, then prohibited him from leaving the country.
The pardon also includes opposition deputies with open judicial processes who are outside the country, as well as party leaders with cases before the Supreme Court for whom there are no prison sentences.
Among the hundred pardons released are Henry Ramos Allup, head of Acción Democrática, the oldest party in Venezuela with almost 80 years, whose directive was invalidated by the highest court, handing over its control to other leaders.
The announcement comes a day after Maduro said he is supporting measures that lead the country to a process of “reunion” and “deep dialogue” ahead of the parliamentary elections on December 6.
“I ask for the support of the entire country for the decisions, announcements and decrees based on dialogue, reunion and reconciliation of Venezuela,” Maduro said on Sunday.
