The Peruvian Congress approved this Monday to remove President Martín Vizcarra for “moral incapacity”, at the end of a second political trial in less than two months, after complaints that he had received bribes when he was governor in 2014.

The motion to remove the Peruvian president was approved by 105 votes in favor, 19 against and four abstentions, surpassing the 87 votes necessary. “The resolution that declares the vacancy of the presidency of the republic has been approved,” declared after the vote the head of Congress, Manuel Merino, who will take the reins of the country until completing the current term, which ends on July 28, 2021 .

Merino said that the measure will be immediately notified to Vizcarra, a president who had record levels of popularity in his 32 months in office. The new Peruvian president will take office on Tuesday in a plenary session of parliament.

In a sort of “remake” of a trial that was successful on September 18, Vizcarra finally had a fate similar to that of his predecessor, Pedro Pablo Kuczysnki (2016-2018), who was unable to complete his term as he was forced to resign. by pressure from parliament.
