Recent citizen complaints showed through social networks certain modalities to which unscrupulous people resort to the counterfeiting of bills of various denominations in Colombia, especially those of $ 50 thousand.

One of the forms of falsification reported shows that the security hologram peels off a counterfeit bill.

In this case, the Banco de la República reported that its Industrial Technical Department identified that counterfeiters remove authentic security elements from original banknotes and stick them on counterfeit bills, which confirms that the item itself has not been reproduced.

“Banknotes in Colombia meet high quality and safety standards, which is why counterfeiters have failed to reproduce the security features”, Says the Bank in a statement.

It details that the form of deception in which a pasted hologram is used had already been presented in the past with bills of different denominations, although there were few cases.

According to the Issuer, banknote security is supported by several easy-to-verify elements and that allow citizens to confirm their authenticity.

The basic points to check are the security tape, the watermark, the matching images and the image with color change and motion effect.
