Learn about the new color code to separate garbage in Colombia

[ad_1]

As of January 1, it began to apply a new color code for the separation of garbage with the aim of reducing carbon emissions in the future.

In order to achieve this, several initiatives have been implemented that seek to improve waste disposal since, according to experts, no positive results have been obtained despite the application of compandings.

Maristella Álvarez, an expert in waste management, explained that “The different separation codes have not been successful previously because there is no previous education stage that involves all parts of the community, that is, universities, companies, families, housewives and schools.”

He added that for it to be successful “All people must be previously educated, instructed, in how to properly do this separation.”

The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Carlos Eduardo Correa Escaf, announced the plan and stressed that “it is a new change that all Colombians are going to have and it is very important that we can appropriate it from homes, mayors, public services companies , that we can know this new color code ”.

“Unfortunately in Colombia this has not had major effects due to the lack of education, it is necessary that part of education where this type of waste is generated, which is precisely in the houses, in the complexes, in the offices, in the industries ”Said Óscar Salazar, ecologist and coordinator of the Colombian Environmental Movement.

Remember:

  • Plastic, glass, metal, paper and cardboard waste goes into the white bag or bin.
  • Non-usable waste such as toilet paper, napkins and cardboard with food should go in the black bag or bin. Additionally, it is used to dispose of wastes directly related to COVID-19 such as masks, gloves, among others.
  • Organic waste such as food scraps and grass cuts should be deposited in the green bag or bin.
