Laura Olascuaga, 25 years old and representative of the Bolívar department, was elected this November 16 as Miss Universe Colombia, in a ceremony held in Barranquilla.

A social communicator and journalist, she is 1.80 meters tall and was born in Cartagena. In 2018 she was elected viceroy in the National Beauty Contest.

His name had been sounding insistently in Miss Universe Colombia and was always among the favorites.

The first finalist in the contest was Jenifer Pulgarín, a young woman with a hearing disability. To answer the questions, Pulgarín was assisted by a sign language translator. She is 25 years old and is an environmental administration, model, dancer and entrepreneur born in Pereira. Represented Norte de Santander.

The second finalist was Laura Juliana Lamus, from Santander. 23 years old, he is 1.74 meters tall and is a student of fashion design and model.

The night began by choosing the 16 semi-finalists, a group that also entered Casanare, Atlántico, Huila, Cartagena, Cesar, Cabildo Encanto Amazonas, Caldas,, Valle, Cauca, Antioquia, Nariño and Meta. Quindío entered by vote of the public.

Later, the group was reduced to six finalists, which included Norte de Santander, Santander, Cauca, Quindío, Bolívar and Cabildo Encanto Amazonas.

The three finalists were Santander, Norte de Santander and Bolívar.

Miss Universe Colombia began this year, after Natalie Ackerman, former Miss Atlántico in the Cartagena National Beauty Contest, and former representative of Germany to Miss Universe, acquired the franchise for the country and thus is in charge of the choice and dispatch of the representative.

Thus, a new selection process for the woman who will take the Colombian band to Miss Universe began, although there is still no confirmed date for the event.

Ackerman and a team of judges were in several Colombian cities doing the preselection of the candidates.

The jury is made up of Luz Helena Restrepo, Miss Colombia 1967; Pilar Guzmán, public relations officer; Amalín de Hazbún, fashion designer, and Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018.
