The most important beauty pageant in the world has always had Colombian women among its favorites. For this reason, on several occasions they have been in the last places, but the majority have had bad luck since for different reasons they have returned home without the crown. Laura Olascuaga will be the representative in the Miss Universe 2021 edition.
Colombian Miss Universe
Colombia has only managed to win the international event twice. The first Colombian queen to be crowned Miss Universe was Luz Marina Zuluaga that in 1958 raised the name of the country with its beauty. After this and 56 years later, Paulina Vega was chosen the most beautiful woman on the planet January 25, 2015, being one of the most remembered winners worldwide and that enjoys the greatest fame today.
Despite these victories, there have been more occasions in which Colombia has been in second place and on the verge of winning the crown. Laura González in 2017, Ariadna Gutiérrez in 2015, Taliana Vargas in 2008, Carolina Gómez in 1994, Paula Andrea Betancur in 1993 and Paola Turbay in 1992, were the Colombian women who occupied second places in the history of Miss Universe.
It is worth remembering the case of Ariadna who, due to an error by the presenter Steve Harvey, was chosen for a few minutes, until it was found that Pia Wurtzbach, from the Philippines, was the true winner.
Most winning countries in Miss Universe
The United States is the country that has obtained the most crowns in the history of Miss Universe with a total of eight winners, being Olivia Culpo in 2012 the last winner of that nation. Second place goes to Venezuela who has won the title seven times. Gabriela Isler was the last woman from that country to win Miss Universe in the ceremony that took place on November 9, 2013.
Third place is occupied by Puerto Rico with five crowns while the Philippines, with the victories of Pia Angela Alonzo Wurtzbach in 2015 and Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray in one of the latest versions of the event, ranks fourth with a total of four Miss Universe titles.
