ORn tragic balance of one death and seven injured people, including two minors, left a strong traffic accident that occurred on Saturday night between the municipalities of San Gil and Socorro, in the south of Santander.

They investigate whether a lane invasion caused the collision between two private vehicles. In one of them, Juan Bautista Quiroga López, 25, the mortal victim, was mobilizing as a passenger.

According to the report delivered by the authorities, the accident occurred at 7:45 p.m. at kilometer 110 +160 meters of the National Bridge-San Gil road, near the Berlin Prison in Socorro. In this sector a white Chevrolet Swift car with BCD-777 plates and a black Renault Duster KJB-604 truck collided.

Lane invasion

According to preliminary versions, who was driving the Chevrolet Swift in a curve, and for reasons that are a matter of investigation, would have exceeded the center line, invaded the opposite lane in which the truck was going and crashed in a spectacular way.

The state of the vehicles showed the severity of the blow, and the speed at which they apparently were going. All four occupants of each vehicle were trapped between the twisted cans.

The sector community and the Army immediately came to their rescue, while Civil Defense rescuers and other private ambulances, as well as the Police, arrived to collaborate and transfer 6 of the 8 people to the Manuela Beltrán del Socorro Regional Hospital.

However, Juan Bautista died minutes after entering the medical center, as a result of the multiple traumas he suffered. In the same car were Jorge Eduardo Cárdenas Cupaje, 24; the driver, José Alberto Piamonte Izáquita and John Alexánder López Dávila, both 25 years old. All required transfer to the medical center and yesterday they were stable.

Meanwhile, Nelson Granados, Susana Núñez and two minors aged 9 and 16 were mobilized in the truck. Although all were injured, only the children were taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to authorities.

Juan Bautista lived in Socorro, was married and had a son. Yesterday through social networks his family and friends lamented his tragic and unexpected departure. “Juanito you left us a great void, it hurts us a lot because you were a great brother, a good friend, a great person,” wrote a close friend.
