Julieth Ramírez: story of one of the victims in Bogotá protests – Bogotá

“He was a very happy, sincere and honest person. It was tender ”, these are the words of Jhonatan Villamil, a study partner of Julieth Ramírez, one of the seven fatal victims of what Mayor Claudia López herself has described as “An attack against citizens”, which goes beyond police abuse.

Julieth was a dedicated and responsible young woman. I was studying psychology and English and last year I had finished a course in child education. She was 18 years old, she was fifteen days away from turning 19.

Her father, Harold Ramírez, told CityTv that his daughter was killed by a stray bullet that struck her as she was walking home with a friend.

The report delivered by the Bogotá Mayor’s Office indicates that the shot was received in the chest. Julieth collapsed and almost immediately lost her life. Harold claimed that she was not participating in the protests.

His family has spoken out through social networks asking for the violence to stop. They remember her as a sweet and loving girl with her family. “It is something I never imagined, it leaves an immense void,” they wrote.

Julieth, or ‘yuyu’ as her friends called her, studied at the Dominican Republic School in the town of Suba, where tonight her friends and family will hold a ‘candlelight’ to demand justice and speed in the investigations.
