In a caravan, family and friends of Juliana Giraldo Díaz came to the central cemetery of Jamundí to say goodbye.

Hundreds of people gathered in that municipality and with messages of love, white flower balloons and waving LGTBI flags, they paid tribute to the 36-year-old transgender woman, who was killed last Thursday, September 24 at the hands of a soldier on the road. to Miranda, Cauca.
“We are deeply sorry that this has happened, Juliana was a Jamundeña, recognized in the municipality, decent people, hard-working, calm, who worked, good people and without a doubt we all feel them and more so in the circumstances in which they happened ”, expressed Jorge Iván Mejía, Jamundí’s official.

The Personero pointed out that many members of the Public Force and the Police believe that they have “the power to take action against those who consider them pertinent, thanks to the support generated by the Government.” However, he added, that despite this, we must not respond with violent acts or “be angry at them.”

Everyone remembers Juliana as an enterprising and charismatic woman.
“She was a hard worker, she decorated very beautifully, she made us up, she cut our hair for all parties,” said her friend Ana Castillo.

Juliana Giraldo was a stylist. For a year and a half she had lived in Miranda with her current partner, with whom she raised chickens and sold tilapia. Her dream was to have her own hair salon.
“They were undertaking some projects in company, starting to get ahead together, but now all those dreams were truncated“Said Katherine, a friend of the couple.
“She went to live in Miranda, precisely to have a calmer life, who was going to imagine that she was going to find death there and how it happened in such a miserable way,” said her sister Aura María.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation reported that the special team designated to investigate the murder of the woman will investigate whether the citizen was attacked because of her gender identity.
The coordinator of the prosecution team, Mauricio Noguera Rojas, assured that a process with a differential approach will be carried out and with all the necessary investigative, criminalistic and forensic protocols.
“The most important thing at this time is to be able to determine if Juliana’s gender identity was relevant or not in the occurrence of the events,” Noguera revealed.
The events in which Juliana lost her life occurred around 8:30 in the morning of last Thursday in the village of Guatemala in Miranda. A car with four occupants was moving through that rural area, on the border between Cauca and the south of the Valley.
Witnesses’ versions are that the car partially stopped and when they were going to return, the shots came. The Army version states that the shots were aimed at the tires and that one of the bullets rebounded, hitting the woman.
