An enforcement judge in Bogotá granted work and study permission to former minister Andrés Felipe Arias convicted of the Agro Ingreso Seguro (AIS) case.
(In context: Why did Arias ask permission to get out of jail to work)
The judicial official notified Inpec of his decision, with which Arias may define the time of his departure and justify the work to be carried out outside the military unit in which he is serving a 17-year prison sentence.
That is how it appears in the judicial records of the court in charge of monitoring the execution of the sentence.

According to information from the Judicial Branch, on November 6 the request for permission was made before the second court for the execution of sentences. And today the petition was resolved in a favorable way for the detainee.
This administrative benefit is granted to people sentenced in the country and who meet certain requirements such as good behavior, that there is no risk of flight and that they have served a third of the sentence imposed.
In the case of Arias, he was sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison and has already served, between the time he was detained in Colombia and the United States, more than five and a half years in detention, with which he was already legally entitled to such benefits.

The former official tried to get him to count his time in the United States as part of his sentence, but that request was denied. He sought with that recognition to be able to advance in a petition for a house for jail or even parole.
For now, he is still detained in a military unit in northern Bogotá, where he waits for the Supreme Court of Justice to review his sentence. The Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office asked that the sentence be confirmed.
