The investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office, in record time, on the death of the social leader Juana María Perea Plata, on October 28, is showing the cruelty with which her perpetrators acted: men of the so-called ‘Gulf clan ‘.
EL TIEMPO had access to the information collected on the ground by a team – led by the attorney general, Francisco Barbosa – within the so-called ‘Operation Cetáceo’, which had the support of the National Navy and which included the exhumation of the corpse of the Colombian-Spanish.

From the Malaga naval base, Barbosa requested the support of 4 forensic experts from Legal Medicine and a single engine from the Navy, to reach the town of Termales, in the municipality of Nuquí, located 193 kilometers away.
Given the seriousness of the events, on October 29, Barbosa ordered a team to be formed to travel to the site.

The initial proceedings were carried out by two investigators from the Chocó Section who received part of the intelligence information that Admiral John Giraldo, commander of the Pacific Naval Force, exchanged with Barbosa on the activity of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ in the crime area. .
Pacheco, the boatman, was charged with a conspiracy to commit a crime, but in the next few hours he will also be charged with femicide for the atrocity of the events
The exhumation
The first information they confirmed is that six men, members of the armed group of the ‘Clan Golfo’, nestled in Nuquí, intimidated and murdered Juana María Perea.
Investigators and a prosecutor from the Human Rights Unit, 4 Legal Medicine experts, the delegate for Citizen Security and the Deputy Prosecutor Martha Mancera, arrived in the area on October 31.

The team left Bahía Málaga by helicopter to Juanchaco and from there on the single engine to Nuquí. With the support of Admiral Giraldo, they managed to obtain real-time interviews with authorities and witnesses, who helped reconstruct what happened.
‘Rio Villano’
Evidence was obtained to order the capture of Arístides Pacheco, the man who drove ‘Río Villano’, the boat in which they mobilized the social leader before assassinating her.
Pacheco was charged with a conspiracy to commit a crime, but in the next few hours he will also be charged with femicide for the atrocity of the events.

With the support of 3 of the forensic experts, It was possible to establish that the boat was impregnated with blood that was collected to make the genetic profile in the laboratory.
In addition, they exhumed the body, with the presence of a Forensic Medicine doctor, who did all the forensic traceability and who concluded that the victim was shot three times.
With the support of the National Navy and intelligence from the Police, the Prosecutor’s Office managed to obtain the exact location of who had shot: Néstor Leonel Lozano Muriel, who was arrested in Nuquí.
‘They stripped her’
According to the reconstruction of the events, Juana María Perea entered her home on the night of October 28, 2020, and was intercepted by the three subjects.
They ordered her to leave the house, they forced her to the boat ‘Río Villano’ and she was murdered on the beach, in a lonely place.
“Before being murdered, they took off her clothes in an attitude of humiliation, they made her kneel and received the 3 shots. Once the woman is dead, on the 29th they find her on the beach in the municipality of Nuquí”says the report.
