The Democratic candidate for the White House, Joe Biden, committed a series of lapses on Tuesday, announcing to his supporters that he was going to introduce his son Beau, now deceased, and then said he wanted to announce his daughter Natalie, but pointing to another of his granddaughters.

Biden was speaking in Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania, one of the key states in the election, when he got confused.

“Here is my son Beau Biden, who many of you helped elect to the Delaware Senate. And here is my granddaughter Natalie,” he said, shaking his granddaughter Finnegan.

Biden made the remarks in Pennsylvania rather than Delaware, where people voted to elect his son as attorney general rather than senator.

Realizing his mistake, Biden backed off and said, “Oh, don’t wait, she’s not, she’s the other one.”

Biden’s loss of cognitive ability has been a theme throughout the campaign, since the Democratic primary. His rival, President Donald Trump, makes constant references to his mistakes and even projects recordings at his campaign rallies to entertain attendees.
