After having coordinated the session in the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) in which the senator of the former Farc Julián Gallo (‘Carlos Lozada’) gave his version of the assassination of Álvaro Gómez Hurtado, the magistrate of that jurisdiction Iván González Amado resigned from his position, which he will hold until January 12.

In addition to attending this sensitive audience, the reputed lawyer has also been in charge of the so-called case 07, on the recruitment of boys and girls in war. And, from the Reconnaissance Room, he participated in the decision to expel alias Iván Márquez, ‘El Paisa’, ‘Romaña’, ‘Jesús Santrich’, ‘Zarco Aldinever’ and ‘Walter Mendoza’, heads of the dissidents’ Nueva Marquetalia ‘.

Ivan Gonzalez Amado

Iván González Amado, JEP magistrate, will be in office until January 12.

In fact, González – whose brother-in-law suffered an attack at the time of the 8,000 trial – was challenged by lawyers for ex-guerrillas who indicated that he was supposedly handicapped for having been an advisor to the government in the peace negotiations. In addition, they claimed that he had been giving statements on the issue of the recruitment of minors, which the FARC initially denied. But no challenge was successful.

But, after his departure, images and photos of him also began to circulate as attorney-in-fact for the convicted former governor of La Guajira Francisco ‘Kiko’ Gómez, Attributing to this nexus the background of the resignation of the lawyer, who has also served as auxiliary magistrate of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, Criminal Delegate Attorney, consultant to the Ministry of Justice and professor at universities such as Externado, Los Andes, La Gran Colombia and Santo Tomás ..

After the refusal of the JEP to receive him, Salvatore Mancuso also said that one of the magisyrados had to declare himself impeded for defending ‘Kiko’ Gómez, of whom he spoke.

‘That proxy status was already known’

However, in a short dialogue with EL TIEMPO, the criminal lawyer outright denied that his resignation is related to that case.

In fact, he clarified that the defense he made of the controversial politician was in the disciplinary field: “It was not in the criminal matter. If I remember correctly they were investigating him for six contracts and in five of those cases the charges were not successful.”

In addition, he said that his status as attorney-in-fact had already been known before taking office at the JEP and reiterated that his resignation was due to “personal reasons”, which he preferred not to comment on.However, he admitted that he already asked in writing to a media outlet to stop using those images of him with ‘Kiko’ Gómez in news related to criminal matters, as has been happening.

Iván González, JEP magistrate

Judge González assured that he already asked a media outlet to stop using the images of the disciplinary trial of ‘Kiko’ Gómez, to refer to criminal acts.

Without naming names, the former paramilitary chief Salvatore Mancuso had also said, last September, that one of the magistrates who rejected his admission to the JEP must declare himself impeded for having seized a politician of whom he has spoken: ‘Kiko’ Gómez.

In this regard, the JEP had already determined (in December 2019) that the criminal gang, allegedly led alias ‘Marquitos’ Figueroa, in probable alliance with Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar ‘Kiko Gómez’, does not have the quality of an actor in the armed conflict. Therefore, he had denied entry to that jurisdiction.
